Gatsby's Expectation
In Chapter five, Gatsby has Nick help him with inviting Daisy over for tea. He tells Daisy about these visions he has of the two of them living happy lives together, this is what he thinks of while staring at the green light at the end of the dock. Can Daisy really live up to the expectations of Gatsby though? When Gatsby brings Nick and Daisy into his mansion Daisy becomes overwhelmed with his lavish lifestyle. I think that Gatsby does have genuine feelings for Daisy. The book tells that before Daisy arrives Gatsby becomes very nervous and anxious, so nervous that he took a walk outside while it rained. Now that Daisy and Gatsby's love affair has been unveiled I think that Daisy will be forced to choose between Tom and Gatsby.

An Awkward Dinner
When Nick goes out to East Egg to meet up with his cousin, Daisy and some other friends for dinner. When he arrives, Daisy's husband Tom greets Nick at the front door. While enjoying their dinner the phone rings, Tom leaves the table to answer it, after Daisy leaves the room to follow him, Jordan, a pro-golfer informs Nick that it is Tom's friend in New York. She explains it is not so much a friend as it is the woman he is cheating on Daisy with. If Daisy knows Tom is cheating on her why doesn't she leave him? The biggest factor is money. Daisy likes being married to the extremely wealthy Tom Buchana. More importantly, why would Tom interrupt dinner to answer the phone. If he had stayed and continued dinner things would not have turned out to be as awkward as they did. Fitzgerald's theme in this part of the book is materialism. If Daisy was not so greedy of money she would have left Tom by now. However, because she enjoys being wealthy she will not leave him. My prediction is that Daisy will continue on with Tom and Tom will continue on with his "lover" in New York. I think that Nick may and try to talk Daisy out of being with Tom.
